This was scheduled to be a "Network Services 1" presentation but as often happens it turned into a general discussion. I'll try to note some of the topics of general interest. Mark has turned over the KLUG server to Brian M. who has taken on the task of getting it configured and installed into Internet Kingston. He has installed a pre-release version of Mandrake 9.0 on it and plans to run the mailing list, email aliases, a dynamic DNS type of service as well as the current web page. He is looking for someone to maintain the web page, any volunteers can contact him directly. We also talked a bit about single CD Linux distributions that don't have to be installed on your hard drive and run off of the CD itself. The one mentioned was Knopix at http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html. I've also mentioned one that I've had a lot of success with called DemoLinux at http://www.demolinux.org. Just for comparisson, another older business card sized distribution is LinuxCare, at http://www.linuxcare.com/ and specifically to this location for the download, http://lbt.linuxcare.com/index.epl. Some of the other discussions included file system defragmentation, resource hog OS's, journalling filesystems and some talk on Lindows. Some non-Linux topics were printer ink refills, inkjet vs. laserjet and of course the ever popular "bofh" (see http://bofh.ntk.net/Bastard.html for an introduction). That about wrapped up the evening and thanks to all who attended and participated. 3) Next Meeting: Tue. Oct. 8, 2002 - "Network Services 2"
