KLUG Meeting Minutes and Agenda (#4) The fourth meeting of the Kingston Linux User Group was held Mon, Feb. 22, 1999 at 7PM at Tyr-Na-Nog. The meeting lasted until about 9:30PM. The attendees were: Conrad-Avarmaa, Brigitte x*** Dore, Gabriel x*x* Drummond, Mark **** Mitton, Douglas **** Meeting Schedule: (Monthly, alternating between first Mon and Wed evenings at 7PM. Locations to be determined.) 5 - Wed, Mar. 10 at JR's. (On Base; map on web page. http://signals.rmc.ca/klug) 6 - Mon, Apr. 5 at TBD. 7 - Wed, May 5 at TBD. Summary Of Activities: - Advocacy Director volunteer - Mark Drummond - Install-fest director - ??? - Ongoing Advertising - ??? (Still looking for a volunteer) - Web page host and domain name - Steve investigate, Mark is also checking on RMC hosting. - Web Page Administrator and Co-Ordinator - Brigitte - Member Database Administration - Andrew Hammond - Internet presence - Temporary web page at http://signals.rmc.ca/klug Agenda/Minutes: 1) Roll Call and Introductions - See attendees above. 2) Closed Business: - Name poll has selected KLUG. 3) Old Business: - A discussion on accepting commercial support of KLUG activities. No real conclusions were reached. - Member Information Sheets. - Brigitte will try to incorporate form into the web page. - Andrew Hammond will set up a database on our web page once it has a home. - Crest/Logo ideas welcome, Mark has some ideas being developed (Rick Davies at RMC). - Web page design ideas welcome; Brigitte has volunteered to administer. - Mark is checking if the KLUG page can be hosted at RMC. - Steve looking into host site and name alternatives. - Domain name poll is still in progress. - Advocacy and Outreach projects - Mark has volunteered to direct. - Gabriel Dore is RMC, Steve Frampton at Queens, Richard Potter and Doug Mitton (no portfolio). - Install fest; Queens looks like a good first choice. - Comments were made about some practice installs of a chosen package. - Also concerns were raised about package content licenses ... a client sign off form was proposed. - Rick is looking into the Drill Hall location; Steve mentioned the museum A/V center. - Mark is looking for any feedback on the press release ... about ready to be distributed. - Distribution to promote - Red Hat Mandrake looks good though a little new. - Meeting locations - Mark to check RMC, Rick will check mess and training center availability. - Andrew will check on grad club. Steve mentioned the museum A/V center. 4) Current Business - Advertising update, we require an updated flyer without the date time of the next meeting. Web address? - Mark outlined his CIPS presentation tentatively scheduled for March or April. - Started discussion on installfest requirements; location, audience, method (cd, etc), the "Cool Tools" list. - Some discussion on distributions: Red Hat, Debian or Mandrake ... we are going to give Mandrake a try. - Mark is making some copies of Mandrake so we can try them out. - Locations still being discussed: Thompson Drill Hall, Signal Museum (A/V), ??? - Mark mentioned we need a new RMC rep as Gabriel is 4th year and will be leaving soon. - After the next meeting at JR's we will probably go to a monthly meeting schedule. First Mon/Wed. 5) New Business: - This meeting ended with a general discussion of some of our favorite Linux applications and tools. - Some of these made it onto the "Cool Tools" list that Mark is putting together. 6) Socialize / Adjourn. - Set location of next meeting.
