This was the first meeting of our new schedule, now on the second Tuesday of each month. Mark wasn't able to be present tonight so Mike and myself filled in. The meeting started off with just general discussion about linux and computer topics in general. Doug (yours truly) then gave a brief description of what Linux is, where it came from and how old it is. I then gave a brief demonstration of Mandrake Linux, a variety of window managers and some basic applications. The remainder of the meeting was a Debian (Potato 2.2R4) installation demonstration by Mike. Just to put it into perspective of other Slackware and Mandrake installations we have had, it was very Slackware like in its text based format and option selection. In the expert mode there were many detailed choices available and a lot of control and help in the actual setup stage. There is also an option to install/upgrade over the internet for ease of update. That wrapped up the evening and thanks to Mike and all who attended and participated. 3) Next Meeting: Tue, Feb 12, 2002 - "Installation HowTo"
