KLUG Meeting Minutes and Agenda (#2) The second meeting of the Kingston Linux User Group was held Mon, Jan. 25, 1999 at 7PM at The Toucan. The meeting lasted until about 9PM. The attendees were: Cole, Steve x* Conrad-Avarmaa, Brigitte x* Dore, Gabriel x* Drummond, Mark ** Hammond, Andrew ** Ho, Tan-Jan x* Jezak, Edward ** Malone, Rick ** Mitton, Douglas ** Potter, Richard x* Meeting Schedule: (Bi-Weekly alternating between Mon and Wed evenings at 7PM. Locations to be determined.) 3 - Wed, Feb. 10 at Tyr-Na-Nog. 4 - Mon, Feb. 22 at ???. 5 - Wed, Mar. 10 at ???. Summary Of Open Issues: - Advertising - Rick Malone agreed to make up a flyer. (All members to distribute.) - Advocacy Director volunteer - ??? - Web page host and domain name - Steve Cole volunteered to investigate. - Web Page Administrator and Co-Ordinator - ??? (All members to provide content.) - Press release - Mark Drummond to prepare. - Affiliation with other LUG groups - volunteer ??? Agenda/Minutes: 1) Roll Call and Introductions - See attendees above. 2) Old Business: - KLUG to advocate RedHat distribution to new members. - Members are encouraged to use any package they like, to support diversity of experience. - Debian is required for Queens as they have a local mirror. 3) Closed Business: - Secretary - Doug Mitton - Closed. - KLUG Server and host hardware - this has been closed for now until the LUG advances more. - Meeting dates - alternate Mon and Wed every 2 weeks. Locations are still under discussion. - Financial - This will remain on a strictly unofficial level. Legality issues could be a difficulty. - Wait until the LUG organization has advanced before re-addressing. 4) Current Business: - Member Information Sheets were distributed to those present. Pllease complete and return. - Still require mechanism to file and distribute to other members for various activities. - Crest/Logo ideas welcome, Mark has some ideas being developed. - Rick Malone to make up a flyer for distribution. - Web page design ideas welcome, Brigitte had some sample pages. - Steve looking into host site and name alternatives. - Looking for a volunteer to administer the web page. - Domain name input welcomed. (ie. klug.on.ca, klug.org, etc.) - Mark to poll members for ideas, Steve will set up an anonymous poll. - Advocacy and Outreach projects - Co-ordinator required. - Others to assist in install fests, and other projects as required. - Ideas for advocacy projects are welcome. - Affiliation with other LUG organizations. Financial considerations. - Looking for a volunteer to investigate what is required and available in this area. 5) New Business: - Availability of personal computer hardware in Kingston - general discussion. - Linux distributions available - KLUG should investigate their own special package. - Discussion on a team to investigate new distributions that are emerging. - Internet routing in the Kingston area. - Bell ADSL and ISP access. - Concerns were raised about the name of the LUG - ideas proposed. - Concerns were raised about the meeting locations - noise, space, etc. 6) Socialize / Adjourn. - Set location of next meeting.
