Ideas For Future Meetings: - Implement CD-RW burner in Linux. - Setting up Apache Web Servers under Linux. - KDE KPackage (GUI) software installation demo. Agenda/Minutes: 1) Roll Call and Introductions (if required) - See attendees above. We may have to be more careful about doing this. Especially if there are new people there. 2) This Meeting: There were 12 attendees to our 6th presentation ... "Software Management (RPM's, source code)" by Mark Drummond and Rob Postill. Rob "donated" his computer to the cause, thanks! Mark then went off to demo some windows managers on his computer for the "Managing Window Managers (KDE, GNOME, WindowMaker, etc)" presentation. The demo involved installing Mandrake 6.1 and getting LILO set up in a multi-boot configuration with several other Linux distributions using the projector so all could follow along. They then provided a demonstration of installing then removing packages with the command line rpm. The installation syntax was `rpm -ivh file.rpm`, an upgrade was `rpm -uvh file.rpm` and to remove (erase) was `rpm -ev package`. The joe editor was the experimental package. They then completed a source code installation of the XCDRoast package using the `./configure` and then the `make && make install` commands. While Mark was providing the Window Managers demo, Rob and I finished getting the CD-RW burner configured under his Slackware 7 installation. The installation is almost identical under both Mandrake 6.1 and Slackware 7 and is very straight forward. Both come pre-compiled for this function so Kernel recompiling is not required as the How-To instructions insist. If anyone has ideas for future presentationsd or some favorite personal topic they would like to demo let Mark or myself know and we'll help set it up. 3) Next Meeting: - Wed, Dec. 1 at a To-Be-Determined location for a social meeting. 4) Socialize / Adjourn (Set location and agenda for the next meeting.)
