Agenda/Minutes: 1) Roll Call and Introductions (if required) - See attendees above. 2) This Meeting: Our fourth presentation ... Compiling The Linux Kernel by Doug Mitton (yours truly) was attended by 14 members. Since I can't really provide an un-biased over view I will just thank Mark for providing the demo on his Penguin machine while I went through the presentation. The only observation I have is that due to the varied experience in the group some people seemed to get a lot out of the information, some seemed to be following the process and some looked over whelmed. As in the previous presentations the actual implementation is quite simple to execute but the explaining sometimes makes the operation seem much more complicated. I would also like to repeat what I tried to emphasise in the presentation ... if you are running RedHat or Mandrake (as recommended by KLUG) then you do not have to compile the kernel to make changes to the system, use the RPM's. Compiling the kernel is important given the Open Source nature of Linux and all users should at least be familiar with what it means and the process. Thank you to all who attended and participated, I hope it was at least informative, another of the Linux mysteries unveiled! For those who could not attend I have forwarded an electronic copy to Brigitte who said she would make it available on the web page (thanks Brigitte). 3) Next Meeting: - InstallNight (Let us know in advance and bring in your machine!) - Wed, Sept. 1 at RMC. 4) Socialize / Adjourn (Set location and agenda for the next meeting.)
